EVA WUNDERMAN Eva Wunderman spent 8 years writing and producing programs for radio before starting her career in the film industry. She wrote, directed and produced more than 150 corporate and educational productions. In 1993, she received an I.T.V.A. Emerald City Gold Award - for the corporate production MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION. In 1994, she completed Directing for Film at the Vancouver Film School. Subsequently, she co-produced and directed HEALING HANDS - a half-hour show about massage therapy for the Knowledge Network. Later that year, she co-produced and was the director/writer on a production that was the first to document one of the most important archaeological discoveries of a Maya excavation site at Joya de Ceren in El Salvador. The film entitled THE MAYA POMPEII was produced for The Learning Channel and later broadcast by Discovery International and SBS in Australia. In 1996, Eva won the Canadian Leo award as best director for the documentary THE LEGACY OF TRUK LAGOON. It was produced for A&E's History Channel and also broadcast by NHK in Japan. The film was also nominated for a Golden Sheaf Award. Shot on location in the South Pacific, the film documents the American carrier-based attack in 1944 on the island of Truk, known as Japan's Gibraltar of the Pacific. In 1997, she was executive producer and co-director on a project about the Fa'afafine culture in Western Samoa. This one-hour documentary entitled PARADISE BENT was funded by Channel 4, SBS and The Australian Film Finance Corporation. The film was produced by Re Angle Pictures and is being distributed by Beyond International. In 1997, she was commissioned by The National Film Board to research, write and direct THE FRASER RIVER WAR. A one hour historical documentary for television and half hour show for the educational market . In 1999, Eva was a co-producer and director of THE WRATH OF THE DRAGON -a short film about heroin addiction. The film won best documentary and the people's choice award at the Squamish film festival, the curators First Choice at the Chicago Film Festival, and was also featured at the 1999 Vancouver Film Festival. A one-hour version of this production--WHERE ANGELS WEEP, won a Golden Shief Award in 2000. In 1997, Eva collaborated as an associate producer and writer/director with producer Mike Collier of Yaletown Entertainment, to develop WEIRD HOMES - a series of half-hour shows for television. In 1998, 13 half-hour programs were produced for the Life Network and the show became the top rated Canadian program on their Network. That same year, Eva was nominated for a Leo Award as best director and the series won a World Gold Medal for best biography/profile series at The New York Festival. In 1999 WEIRD HOMES was awarded the Gemini for Best Lifestyle Program, and Eva continued to direct the show for its five consecutive seasons. She was also a director on the following two series commissioned by The Life Network. In 2000 and 2001 WEIRD WHEELS, and in 2002 and 2003 WEIRD WEDDINGS. In 2004 and 2005, Eva produced and directed the documentary “Crystal Fear, Crystal Clear” for CBC’s The Passionate Eye, a highly intimate view of kids involved with crystal meth. The documentary follows the drama and crises of three families during one year in a small Canadian town. “Crystal Fear, Crystal Clear” won Eva the Individual Achievement Award for Outstanding Director from the American Women in Radio and Television at the 31st Gracie Allen Award in 2006. The production was also a 2006 finalist for the FREDDIES - The International Health and Media Awards. In 2006/2007, Eva directed two productions about the dangers of crystal meth - NOT A GAME aimed at the elementary school level, and SCATHED for high schools. Both are currently part of the drug education curriculum in B.C. schools.
